The affidavits submitted by 7 UPFA councilors to the Governor pledging their support to Chief Minister of the Eastern Provincial Council Hafeez Nazeer Ahamad of SLMC, have been withdrawn. The 7 members who withdrew their support to the Eastern Provincial council Chief Minister are: Alam Ameer, Uduman Lebbe, Wimalaweera Dissanayake, W.D. Weerasinghe, T.M. Jayasena, Jayantha Wijesekera and Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan. Former Provincial Council minister Wimalaweera Dissanayake said that UPFA councilors withdrew their support by an affidavit after the agreement that was entered between his party and the SLMC on February 5th was breached. At the same time, our news team enquired SLMC Treasurer Mohammad Azlam about the crisis that could crop up regarding the majority power in the Eastern Provincial Council. He said that his party has already invited UNP and TNA to form a national government, and the ministerial posts have been allocated accordingly.
